Tips for Winning

It's been revealed from the research that 72% of materials in an unplanned campaign are wasted. The key to winning is to make sure that you don’t waste the 72% you need to win an election. That's why planning & targeting plays an important role in campaign. Here are fifteen formulas to guide the candidate:

    1. Control: Candidates should not allow reporters to control the topic, tone and pace of interview. Candidate must go with a clear message and a clear game plan. Make sure that you do not falter at the instigation of reporter/s.

    2. Right selection of Speech: Speeches may be formal or informal. Candidate must choose the right mode of speech depending on the topic, type of audience. Use formal speech when addressing accomplished audience & discussing serious topic. Use informal speech when addressing common man/woman.

    3. Focused: Your answer should focuses on how you want to solve problems of the voters & then only voters will assume that you are going to do something constructive for them. If your answer focuses on you & your qualification only, it will create bad impression about you in the minds of the voters. Rather your answer should focus on the voters. Your answer should spell out your motivation.

    4. Firm Strategies: As the popular saying goes 'Rolling stones gather no mosses’, so it is not suggested that candidate should not change strategies very frequently. If you have good strategies, stick to it. Don't change it even if the roads are rough.

    5. Quality Campaign: As the saying goes "Talking to everyone results in communicating to no one”. One of the most important things during campaign is to target your time, money & message. Candidate must focus on quality campaign communication rather than quantity.

    6. Interaction: While on campaign the candidates must try to interact with the audience. Candidate should not use derogatory statement. So many candidates embarrass themselves by derogatory statements that offend people in their audience. Try to get audience's attention & interact with them.

    7. Story Teller: Telling interesting and illustrative stories during campaign will help the candidate to attract the people and thus the candidate will get the desired mileage. Candidate should make a story file to keep all the stories which he/she has come across that will help the campaign.

    8. Technology: Candidates should use the latest technology & expertise to reduce the cost of his campaign. Candidates should take into account all aspects of campaigning. It is preferable to engage any reputed election technology provider like "Election Awaaz "for all types of technology, expertise for election campaign.

    9. Sure about opponent: During campaign if the candidate is not sure about the opponent, in that case the opponent will get more mileage than the candidate. Candidate must present the contrast between him & his opponent. Write down all the contrasts between you and your opponent & then include them in your campaign communication i.e. literature, speeches etc.

    10. Maximize Impact: It is suggested that candidates should condense the campaign communication efforts to maximize their impact. Try to convey the message to the voters as they can easily understand.

    11. Vulnerability Research: It is suggested that the candidate must make “vulnerability research" & make a list of attacks which his opponent is going to make on him. Candidate should be well prepared to counter the attacks that his opponent will make.

    12. Avoid Repetation: It is suggested that the candidate should not repeat the attacks which his opponent is going to make on him because it will fall flat on voters. Instead, the candidate should attack the opponent for being so power hungry.

    13. Dress Code: The candidate must be well dressed before going for public speech. It is suggested that his dress should be one step above the best dressed member of the audience. Dress according to the type, mood of audience. Dressing one step above puts you in a position of leader.

    14. Show Courtesy: It is suggested a candidate should contact all his local party leaders before announcing to contest for the election. It is not going to support the candidate, but it's a courtesy that will often keep him or her from working against the candidate.

    15. You Approach: It is suggested that candidate should follow "YOU" approach than "I" approach during election campaign. The ideal I: YOU is 1:2 i.e. for every one I used there should be to YOU. It will help the candidate to establish that he will work for the betterment of the Voters leadership.
